Matched conversations: how new leads reach your Inbox
When a family posts a request that matches your profile, Bornbir doesn't just alert you — for subscribing providers it opens the conversation for you, so the family can find you and you can reply in one click. Here is how that works.
What a matched conversation is
A few minutes after a matching lead is posted, a conversation with that family appears in your Inbox. It opens with a Care request card showing the family's due date or baby's birthday, their location, the providers they need, a link to their phone number if they gave one, their answers to the request questions, and any more details they wrote — so you have the full context without opening the leads board. (In the Bornbir app the card starts collapsed; tap Show details to open it.) The thread itself stays empty until you or the family writes.
On the family's side, your profile shows up as a Matched card in their Messages, alongside the other providers matched to their request. They can open it, read your profile and reviews, and message you — or you can write first.
Who gets matched conversations
Conversations are opened automatically for Premium and Business providers whose service range covers the family's location and whose categories match the request. Midwives and providers in areas with very few matching providers are included on any plan. Everyone else still receives the lead alert and sees the lead on their board.
Finding them on your leads board
Until you write to the family, a matched lead carries a Matched to you label on your leads board, and the Matched to you tab lists all of them. These families haven't messaged you personally — their request was sent to you because you fit what they're looking for — so send a short intro to start the conversation. Your dashboard's New leads tile shows how many are matched to you. A lead drops off the tab once you've written to the family, when the lead closes, or when you click Not interested.
Replying
Open the conversation from your Inbox and write as you would to any family — the message box works the same way. If you open the same lead from your leads board or an email, Connect takes you into this existing conversation rather than starting a second one.
There is no longer a canned automatic reply: the first thing the family reads from you is your own message. Respond quickly and personally — providers who reply within an hour usually see the highest parent response rates.
Saved replies: reuse your own wording
If you find yourself typing the same introduction or the same answer about rates, save it once. Your saved replies appear as buttons above the message box in every conversation and in the Connect window on the leads board. Tap one and its text fills the message box; add a line about the family's request, then press Send. Nothing is ever sent for you.
- To add your first one, tap + Save a reply to reuse above the message box in a conversation, in the Connect window, or on a lead's page. You're brought back to where you were, with the new reply ready to tap.
- To add, edit or remove saved replies later, go to Account settings → Manage saved replies, or tap Edit next to the buttons. You can keep up to 10.
- In your first message to a family, the family's first name is added for you: "Hi!" becomes "Hi Morgan!", and a reply that has no greeting gets "Hi Morgan," on its own line. Later messages in the same conversation are filled in exactly as you saved them.
- If you already typed part of a message, tapping a saved reply adds it underneath instead of replacing what you wrote.
What happened to the automatic reply setting
The Automatic reply to new leads field was retired in September 2026. It no longer appears on your Service tab, and nothing is shown to families on your behalf. Matched conversations replaced it: families see your real profile card the moment you're matched, which drives more replies than a scripted greeting did. If you had written an automatic reply, that text is now your first saved reply, named My introduction, ready to send with one tap.
