Getting background checked

Families increasingly ask whether a provider has been background checked. Bornbir lets you complete one through Checkr, an accredited third-party consumer reporting agency, and shows a dated Background checked badge on your profile once your report comes back clear.

How to get checked

  1. Your profile must be live. Open Profile strength on your dashboard or Profile page and click Get background checked (in the Bornbir app it's Background check on the Account tab, and the payment page opens in Safari — pay there, then tap Check payment status).
  2. Review what's included and click Continue to payment — $39.99. It's a one-time payment by card — no change to your subscription.
  3. Watch your email: Checkr sends you an invitation to enter your details on Checkr's secure site. The invitation stays open for 7 days.

Checkr's form starts with the name on your Bornbir account; correct it there if it isn't your full legal name. If your Bornbir name is only an initial or includes characters Checkr doesn't accept, such as parentheses or emoji, we leave it off and you type your legal name on Checkr's form instead.

Most reports finish within a day; county searches can take a few days. We email you when your result is in.

What Checkr screens for

The package depends on the country on your profile's Business tab.

  • United States — national criminal database, sex offender registry, global watchlist, and Social Security number trace.
  • Canada — Canadian criminal record search and global watchlist, at the same price.

Background checks aren't offered yet for providers in the UK or Australia.

Privacy

The check happens entirely on Checkr's site; Bornbir never sees your personal details beyond your email. Only you receive your full report — Bornbir records pass status only, and that's all families ever see.

The badge

A clear result puts a "Background checked · [month year]" badge at the top of your public profile and a Trust & safety note explaining the check in your profile's Credentials section, a check mark beside your name on search and city-page cards, and a badge in families' Messages. Families can click it to see what was screened. Any other result issues no badge and nothing is shown on your profile.

When a family orders the check

Families can also order a background check on you from their conversation with you, at their expense. You'll get an email that a family has requested it, followed by Checkr's invitation — completing it works exactly the same way, and the badge is yours to keep.

Refunds and problems

If you don't complete Checkr's invitation within 7 days it expires and the payment is refunded in full. Email support@bornbir.com with any questions.
